Figuring out what to order on a dinner date can be tricky. I never want to be obnoxious and order the most expensive item. But at the same time, I don’t want to order something that will gross my man out. Men aren’t as judgmental as women, but you don’t want to order something and your date look at you like you’re nutty. So, here are a few foods to steer clear of on a date.

Food #1: Salad
Rule #1 of dating – don’t ever order a salad. There are very few guys that enjoy dating a girl with eating issues, and ordering a salad as your meal sends the wrong signal. Men are attracted to women who like to eat. A hearty appetite is sexy. A guy wouldn’t ask you to join him for dinner if he wanted to watch you order something extremely healthy. When your date reflects on your time together, you don’t want him to remember you as “the girl who ordered a salad.”
Food #2: Spaghetti
I personally love pasta. I think it’s delicious and something I always order on a date. You don’t want to order something too expensive, and pasta is usually priced just right. However, there’s a big difference between pasta and spaghetti. Pasta, such as penne or rigatoni, can be eaten politely. Spaghetti on the other hand, is messy regardless of how you eat it. Recently, barbecue restaurants have become pretty popular. I’m not sure how many men would choose a barbecue restaurant for a date, but you never know. Just in case, stay away from any kind of wings or ribs. You might think it’s cute to eat with your hands and get all dirty, but it’s not. No guy wants to look at a girl with sauce all over her face. You want to be sexy, not a hot mess.

So if you want him to kiss you, stay away from the lobster.

First date food choices are tricky. At least I think so. I’m a very picky and boring eater, so restaurants with interesting menus don’t appeal to me. Put a piece of grilled chicken on a plate with some sautéed veggies, and I’m happy. This week my Matchmaker mom gave me the task of coming up with a menu of what not to eat on a first date. I gave it some thought and came up with 4 top choices.

Food #1: Salad

Dating Tips: Things I Can Live Without

This section of Janis Spindel’s dating advice course was really hard for me because I don’t like to give anything up. The top 3 things I can live without are: taking taxi’s, going out to dinner during the week, and seeing movies in theaters. In an effort to make a social budget for myself, I had to cut back on some costs to allow money for my new beauty budget. If I only take taxi’s Friday and Saturday nights, go out to dinner only on the weekends, and stop seeing movies in the theater, I will save a lot of money! This course is all about prioritizing, and lets face it, it is much more important to make sure my hair and nails look great than to take a cab. The subway is a great place to meet people – and with my hair and nails in perfect shape I’m sure to feel very approachable.

Hi ladies, its Janis Spindel. Your one on one matchmaker. I hope you really enjoyed my E book and I want to give you some pretty proven action tips for you to grab and run with them. The first thing that you need to do ladies is, get your goals organized.

What do you want, what type of guy do you want, what type of job do you want, what type of life do you want ahead of you. You really need to get your act together and figure this out before you can go any further. You also need to figure out what your non negotiable are. It could be smoking, it could be religion, it could be politics, it could be a multitude of things, but you must figure out what your non negotiable are. Non negotiable are different than values, values are beliefs and how you grew up and your childhood, what you believe in -the whole nine yards.

You have to cherish your values and pick your non negotiable, and you must reinvent yourself. Men are visual human beings ladies. They are extremely superficial and shallow. You need to look in the mirror and get to know yourself. Make a list of you best qualities and look at them every day. Tape them to the mirror, put it where you put your make up. Every morning you wake up, remind yourself how wonderful you are. And if not, I don't want you looking in a magic mirror.

Have a reality check ladies. Don't look in the mirror and think you see Julia Roberts, because only in Julia Roberts's mirror, does Julia Roberts see herself.

Be realistic with your expectations of what you are looking for. But on the other hand you can treat it like a job, figure out how important this is to you. Maybe you should move to a new city, maybe you should change jobs, maybe you should travel somewhere. Be out there, if you're not out there you're not going to find him. Do something where you can focus on what you're doing not who your meeting. whether its tennis, golf whether it's the game bridge, or whether it's going for a walk in the park with the dog.

Ladies there are no excuse of why you are single. I'm sick and tired of women telling me that they are picky, you are not picky. You do things wrong. I deal with this everyday day, every hour of my life. The Overview
Dating can turn into endless cycles that lead to nowhere but if dating for marriage, dating takes on a new form. When commitment is involved, a new approach must be taken. I stress to not get uptight about dates or push too hard, but I also recognize that you are on a mission. Here’s a clue to how to prepare for a date: blow him away with your beauty and charm. It’s important to always keep trying especially when you’ve met Mr. Right. This can also be useful for those of you coming out of a relationship in the urge to start over. The effort does not stop when you get a ring on your finger. In fact, it is only just beginning.

You’ve laid down the groundwork, put yourself out there, and made drastic changes in your life, appearance and attitude. Now, it’s finally happened; a man (or maybe even multiple men) has asked you out on a date. Congratulations! The anticipation of a first date can be very exciting but also can raise a lot of emotions such as fear, anxiety, and overwhelming joy—especially if you are hoping this date might turn into forever. Focusing on this idea alone though, could sabotage a perfectly nice evening. If you indulge in this fantasy, that your entire future is depending on this one meeting, then you will be a nervous wreck. Also, he will be able to spot your desperation the second you meet. I have seen intelligent, sophisticated women put too much pressure on the first date. First thing to remember: it’s only a date! Lighten up.

Your Date
Circumstances in which you meet a particular man will most definitely determine how you should respond to him and when he asks you on a date. Once an in-person encounter has been set, it’s a good idea to plan something that isn’t too open-ended and that takes place in a crowded place. That’s why I am against a walk in the park for a first date. If he asks you to dinner, suggest lunch or drinks instead. This will be less costly to him and less awkward to end. If you meet for lunch or cocktails, and your initial impression of him turns out to be quite the opposite, you can relax, be polite, and know the date has a defined end. Lunch makes it easy to say that you need to get back to the office for example. Even a Saturday lunch gives you the chance to make up an excuse like, “I promised my Aunt Laura that I’d take her shopping at 3 p.m.” If a date comes through someone you know well though, you can be a bit more open about when and where you meet especially if you trust the person who has made the introduction. Just remember, it is his job to ask you on the date, and if his suggestion doesn’t sit right with you, politely suggest something else. Give yourself plenty of time too! Don’t accept for the next day, accept only at least one week in advance so you don’t seem too anxious and more importantly, so you have time to prepare!

Be You
When you arrange to meet a blind date, even if he has seen pictures of you before, you will probably have to tell him what you’ll be wearing. So therefore, make sure you wear that outfit! Don’t think you can show up in another outfit to “spy” on him and then leave if you don’t like what you see. It’s rude, mean, and dishonest.

The First Date Hair
I tell every one of my clients to get their hair washed and blown out before a big date. A blow-out should enhance your natural style and make you hair shiny and vivacious. Before a big date is not the time to try something new! No short haircuts, no funny colors, or weird hair ornaments. Meeting for lunch during the week? Make the time—it should take no more than half an hour.

The First Date Makeup
Great date makeup is another first-date must. Do not just touch up your makeup after work, and do not do it yourself that morning. Make an appointment with the best makeup artist and have your face “done” professionally and naturally. It should not take much time and it is so worth it—you will feel absolutely spectacular. When I see a woman who has had her hair blown out and her makeup done, she radiates confidence, beauty, and sex appeal. This will help you become a super version of yourself!

Men Reveal It All
When I ask my clients what they are looking for in an “ideal” woman, these are the things that constantly reoccur:

- attractive
- nice figure
- sweet
- intelligent
- “up” personality and naturally happy
- sense of humor
- shared values
- bright and educated
- sincere
- no “daily catharsis” to deal with

Toes and Nails
Don’t forget your nails and toes. Chipped polish is a major no-no. Make sure your manicure and pedicure are perfect and subtle (no funky colors please!). Make sure you have the same color in your bag for fix-ups.

First Date Clothes
Be beautifully dressed for all dates, not just the first because all dates matter. That doesn’t necessarily mean dress fancy unless the occasion calls for it. Even if it is a casual Saturday lunch, you should look groomed, fashionable, sexy and subtle. A seductive outfit is not about cleavage or skin; it’s about showing off your figure to its best advantage. Sexy is about looking like a lady—men love skirts and heels. If you don’t wear something fitted, they will assume something is wrong with your figure. The same thing goes for wearing pants; they will assume you don’t have nice legs. This sounds crazy but it’s unfortunately true. If your first date is after work, be sure to take along alternate high heels and a lacy camisole to throw on under your suit—anything to make your work outfit look feminine and fresh.

Countdown Schedule
Follow this countdown schedule to ensure you’re picture perfect for any first date. Make sure to make all appointments well in advance so you get the times you want:

One week before date:
Dry clean or press any clothes you are planning on wearing
Make sure all accessories are in order
Make sure you have the right shoes and that they are polished
Purchase pantyhose, stockings, or other lingerie if necessary

One or two days before date:
Manicure and pedicure
Touch up roots, if necessary
Facial and any other spa treatments

Day of date:
5:00: Change top, shoes, hose, etc.
5:30: Get makeup done
6:30: Hair blow-out
7:30 meet your date!

Be On Time
When you have a date, show up on time. There is nothing that drives me crazier than people who are perpetually late. A man will appreciate your promptness but will feel slighted if you’re late, and justifiably so. Bottom line is it is just plain rude to keep someone waiting. If you’ve kept men waiting, you should not wonder why you’re single. If you get somewhere early, don’t worry, just walk around the block or go to the powder room to freshen up.
